Arriving at Shannon Airport, you are met by our own transport.
You will be transferred by bus to our first nights accommodation
at the legendary town of Killarney. You will have time free to
acclimatise and to see some of Killarney before our welcome drink
in the evening, hosted by your guide for the tour.
Please remember we may have to wait for other people
at the airport!
Our route takes us from Killarney toward Kenmare – passing
through the scenic Killarney National Park. On the way we enjoy
the views as we ascend alongside the Torc Waterfall. Continuing
through deciduous forest, by the Upper Lake, we ascend a gentle
valley between Knockrower and Peakeen Mountain, before descending
toward Kenmare.
We are met by our transport upon hitting the tarred road and
transfer to our accommodation at Sneem.
Leaving from our base in the beautiful village of Sneem we ascend
through a wooded valley on the Kerry Way. Crossing over hills
and valleys and through forest we are afforded views over Kenmare
Bay to the Beara Peninsula. Skirting Eagles Hill we have a gentle
ridge descent to the small village of Caherdaniel.
We then transfer back to our base at Sneem.
Transfer to Caherdaniel for the start of our day. An easy walk
along the coastal spur of the Kerry Way to the beach at Derrynane.
Visit the house and gardens at Derrynane House - the ancestral
home of Daniel O’Connell, lawyer, politician and statesman.
A walk along the beach brings us to Abbey Island, where tides
permitting we can walk out to the rocks. We continue along the
old “mass path” at Bunnavalla and then onward to
rejoin the Kerry Way under Cahernageeha Mountain.
We are met by our transport at Derrynane to transfer to our accommodation
at Ballinskelligs.
Visit the Skellig Islands by boat (ticket not included). This
is a full day trip to visit one of the most remote and magnificent
monastic sites in Europe on Sceilig Mhichíl (Skellig
Michael), and which illustrates the very spartan existence
of the first Irish Christians. There is also a visit to Little
Skellig Island nature reserve to see the most populous bird
sanctuary in Ireland.
We return in the early evening and enjoy another fine meal at
our base in Ballinskelligs.
A morning transfer drops us at Glenbeigh on the north coast of
the peninsula, from where, ascending alongside Mt Seefin, we
pass through the Windy Gap (Bearna na Gaoithe) with views back
to Inch Strand and Dingle Bay and onward through the valley
of Glencar to the MacGillycuddy Reeks proper. Descending through
forest trails we rise again to our destination at Glencar.
Our transport drops us at the head of the valley in Glencar.
We ascend to cross a rugged mountain gap by the Bridia Valley
and onward under the shadow of Ireland’s highest mountain,
Carrauntoohil. Carrying on we cross the Black Valley and when
once again in reach of Killarney’s upper lakes and forests
we turn into the famous Gap of Dunloe where we walk alongside
the Purple Mountain to Kate Kearney's Cottage and the end of
our tour.
Met by our transport, we travel back to Glenbeigh for our last
night’s meal and undoubtedly tall tales of the previous
week.
Transfer back to Shannon Airport for your return flight.
